Smith Landscaping has been providing professional lawn fertilization and weed control for our customers in the Mahoning Valley for over 30 years. During that time, we have created a lawn care program with proven results that can be seen in the healthy and beautiful turf at the properties we maintain. Our program follows the guidelines put forth by the Ohio Cooperative Extension and has been reviewed and approved by turf care experts. Here is a breakdown of the lawn fertilization and weed control services provided.
Lawn Fertilization & Weed Control Service
1. Early Spring Pre-Emergent Weed Control (March – April)
Getting an early jump on annual grassy weeds such as crabgrass is very important. Pre-emergent weed controls prevent annual weed seeds from germinating in the spring. This is the only way to guarantee grassy weeds won’t infiltrate your turf. The general time window for this application is early spring, but this varies every year depending on soil temperatures and weather conditions. Trust the Smith Landscaping team to apply your pre-emergent properly and timely to ensure your lawn is weed-free all year long.
2. Late Spring Post-Emergent Weed Control (May – June)
Post-Emergent Weed Control treats all broadleaf weeds that may be present in your lawn. Late spring is the time to treat these weeds before they can spread and take over your property. Clover, broadleaf plantains, dandelion, ground ivy, and other broadleaf weeds are treated at this time.
3. Mid Summer Broadleaf Spot Treatment (June – July)
Invariably, some small broadleaf weeds may still be visible in mid-summer, especially in lawns that are new to a professional treatment program. Our mid-summer visit treats all of these broadleaf weeds in addition to any sedge weeds that may be present.
4. Early Fall Fertilization (August – September)
Fall is the best time to fertilize cool-season grasses in Ohio. Our fall fertilizer visits provide a total of 3.5 lbs of Nitrogen per 1,000 sq. ft. of turf area, just the right amount to ensure thick, lush, green turf. The first application is applied in early fall as the weather cools and the turf recovers from the stress of the hot dry summer weather.
5. Fall Fertilization (October – November)
Another application of slow-release fertilizer is applied in mid-fall.
6. Late Fall/Winter Fertilization (November – January)
Our final turf application of the year is the late fall fertilizer or limestone application. This application is a slow-release fertilizer that gives your lawn the nutrients it needs to survive the winter and come back stronger than ever next spring.
